It all began when Mdm Liew approached me in the canteen near the end of 2007. She asked if I would be the form teacher of 311 the following year. I have always had a soft spot for the Normal Technical students having taught them all this while. I think many of these NT students are generally genuine, adorable and have a lot of “heart and soul”. Without much hesitation, I told Mdm Liew that it would be my pleasure to do so. That was how my journey with the class started.
It took time to get to know each one of them in class. But it was a class with many colourful characters. Some of the students were boisterous and loud. Others were shy and quiet. A few were nonchalant and did not bother to pay attention in class or hand in their homework. Most however were cooperative, helpful and had a positive attitude towards learning. There were still some conflicts such as bullying, fighting and disagreements with teachers within the class at the start of year. All these incidents required careful management by Mdm Pok and me. But the turning point came when the whole class was bundled off for an Adventure Camp at Kota Tinggi, Malaysia. There, we had the time of our lives! The trek up Mount Panti was especially memorable. It was during the climb that I could see the camaraderie and class spirit of 411. Also, I saw another side to those 411 students who had been deemed “challenging” by the school. They were encouraging their classmates to persevere and were lending a helping hand to them. When I saw this, my heart swelled with pride and I was proud that these were my students. We would always have fond memories of those times we spent at the Adventure Camp.
It is now a brand new year and all in all, it has been a good start. I look forward to a year of fun, joy, laughter, tears, hard work and achievements with 411, my wonderful form class.
